Sara Smith
SPECIALIST SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPIST (NEUROLOGY)
Sara graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2012 and has since dedicated her career to supporting adults with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties. She has specialist experience in aphasia and dysphagia rehabilitation, working with individuals and families/caregivers following stroke as well as those living with progressive neurological conditions.
Sara has worked across the full care pathway including acute hospitals, inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient clinics, care homes, and within clients’ own homes delivering tailored, person-centred therapy to meet each individual’s goals. She is passionate about making therapy functional and relevant, focusing on practical outcomes that improve everyday life and independence.
Most recently, Sara held the role of Clinical Lead for Instrumental Examination of Swallowing within the NHS at Chesterfield Royal Hospital , supporting both patients and staff in delivering high-quality, evidence-based care. She is trained in both Videofluoroscopy and Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), and has a strong interest in instrumental assessment to support accurate diagnosis and effective, evidence-based intervention to treat and manage swallowing difficulties.
