Ruth Williams

SPECIALIST PAEDIATRIC SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPIST (NEUROLOGY)

Ruth completed her Bachelor’s degree in Speech and Language Therapy in 2013. She has since worked with both paediatric and adult clients as a speech and language therapist. This has involved working in special needs schools, mainstream schools, care homes, day centres, supported living and in the community (going to the shops, going on the bus). In addition, to this Ruth has worked at two of the Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) hubs providing paper-based, electronic AAC assessments and training for the family and support teams of the client.  Ruth also has practical life experience of complex needs and using AAC as she has worked as a carer and as a teaching assistant within a special needs school.

Ruth has always been interested in AAC. Ruth finds it inspiring to work with individuals to provide them with other ways of communicating other than their voice. Her work strongly focuses on collaborating with the client and their team to provide functional, developing and consistent communication methods.

Ruth remains working within the NHS as part of an Adult with a Learning Disability Team. She is co-chair of the AAC Special Interest Group and co-organises the quarterly London AAC Journal Club.  She keeps up with the changes in the industry by attending and presenting at Communication Matters and ISAAC.
