Leyla Prince

SPECIALIST SPEECH & LANGUAGE THERAPIST (NEUROLOGY)

Leyla is a specialist speech and language therapist with over 20 years’ experience. She qualified in South Africa and had since had experience of working in both community and inpatient settings before emigrating to the UK in 2002.  She has 18 years’ experience working in the field of neurorehabilitation at the Oliver Zangwill centre for neuropsychological rehabilitation both as a clinician and as the Head of service, up until it was decommissioned in 2022.  She has extensive experience of developing and delivering, individual and group interventions for people with acquired brain injury and using creative and innovative ways to support clients to reach their goals. Fundamental to this is working holistically with client and family and interdisciplinary team.  Her experience has included a brief spell seconded to a paediatric ABI service, allowing her to work with clients with ABI across the lifespan. Her areas of interest include supporting clients with cognitive communication difficulties and social communication difficulties.  She finds enjoyment in using a functional approach incorporating everyday activities meaningful to the client such as work or social leisure, into their communication goals.

In addition, Leyla is a qualified family and systemic psychotherapist and draws on this to mutually complement her role as a speech and language therapist.  She has extensive experience in offering psychoeducation to clients, their families and support staff to support the rehabilitation process.  Leyla has a keen interest in research and has completed a MSc in speech and language pathology in 2004, co-authored research publications in neurorehabilitation, as well as authoring book chapters to support other therapists working with clients with ABI throughout her career.
