Emma Fitzgerald

SPECIALIST SPEECH & LANGUAGE THERAPIST (NEUROLOGY)

Emma graduated with distinction from the University of Reading in 2013. Her career has been dedicated to supporting individuals of all ages, from children to adults, who have acquired neurological disorders impacting their communication and swallowing abilities.

With a wealth of experience in both acute hospital settings and community-based care, Emma has worked in various environments including hospital wards, homes, schools, care homes, and community hospitals. She has successfully supported adults and children with a wide range of acquired swallowing and communication disorders, collaborating closely with clients, their families, and multidisciplinary teams. She has spent time working in a range of specialist areas including hyper acute stroke units, intensive care, and school-based language provisions for children.  

Emma's passion for paediatric feeding, eating, and drinking disorders is evident in her current role as the Clinical Lead for Paediatric Feeding Eating and Drinking Disorders at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. She is committed to providing evidence-based, individualised care to children with these challenges.

Key areas of expertise include:

  • Communication and Swallow rehabilitation across the lifespan

  • Tracheostomy management

  • Videofluoroscopic swallowing studies

Drawing on her previous experience as a Senior Staff Nurse at Guys and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, Emma integrates a holistic approach into her therapy sessions, ensuring that clients receive compassionate and supportive care focused on improving quality of life.
